Don't they have gun control in Australia?
Nice to see they've managed to wipe out violence...
Warring clans riot in Tennant Creek
More than a hundred people have rioted in the outback town of Tennant Creek, with members of warring clans clashing with boomerangs, axes, hammers and nulla nullas.

There's more info at the link. What I want to know is, where did the freaking samurai sword come from???

I'm pretty sure I'm getting my ass kicked tomorrow
Have you ever known someone who was clumsy? So clumsy that they take a huge chunk out of their finger closing the band-aid box???

The man of the house
A husband had just finished reading a new book entitled, "You Can Be THE Man of Your House.
He stormed to his wife in the kitchen and announced, "From now on, you need to know that I am the man of this house and my word is Law.
You will prepare me a gourmet meal tonight, and when I'm done eating my meal, you will serve me a scrumptious dessert.
After dinner, you are going to go upstairs with me and we will have the kind of sex that I want!
Afterwards, you are going to draw me a bath so I can relax.
You will wash my back and towel me dry and bring me my robe. Then, you will massage my feet and hands.
Then tomorrow, guess who's going to dress me and comb my hair?"
The wife replied, "The freakin' funeral director would be my first guess.

More fun than a pocket full of rattlesnakes...
The other night I went to the range with my dad. He wanted to try & figure out which magazine keeps jamming in his rifle (AR-7). Guess what, dad. Leaving the gun dirty to test blowback isn't going to make the slide operate properly, and that's going to make the gun jam :)
I took my new Ruger New Model Single Six. It's a super nice pistol, and fun to shoot. My dad spent some time practicing with his left hand. His index finger on his right hand was shot off by a negligent hunter a while back. Now he's having to relearn how to shoot with his off hand. His off-hand groups were better than my strong-hand groups. Bastard. I still do better with my Taurus PT140 :)
As we were leaving the range, he casually mentions that his brother, my Uncle Joe (aka Butch) was in town. How about we swing by & say hey? We did, and we all went to Cracker Barrel for coffee (and soda for me). There I got to witness my uncle ineptly flirt with the young waitress, and listen to his stories, and listen to him quote scripture at me. The entire time, my dad gave him a hell of a time about his oncoming senility (telling the same stories over and over), his batting record with women (and his state of singleness), his poor memory (correcting his quoting of scripture), his balding and gray hair (he's catching up with dad), and his truthfulness (every time he'd start out with "in all honesty" or "truthfully" my dad would yell out "you know whenever he says that he's about to tell a lie!") As we were leaving, he talked about what a cheapskate he was, and told me to be sure to tip the poor harried waitress well, otherwise Butch would stiff her (I had already tipped $5).
It's been a long time since I saw my dad & his brother together. It was freaking hilarious! Talk about sitcom material :)

Got a home shop
A guy named Frank Ford has a page up with Home Shop Tech Tips. It's got a lot of good info there.
On a completely unrelated note, why not give seasteading a try. It's like homesteading, but on big platforms in international water. My favorite quote: "I'd say that libertarian geeks are our most common audience so far." More info can be found at seasteading.org.

I guess I am that guy
I went to a show last night with Indigent, Dead-I-On, and The Unbeheld.
Quick synopsis:
Indigent were good, sound & levels spot on, music was good, vocals were ok but a tad "screamy". I was surprised that Reggie can play the fuck out of the bass, and the guitarist looked like he was playing a Guitar Hero controller. He's just a big dude :)
Dead-I-On was ok. I think their music has gotten tons better. My biggest complaint is the vocals. Way too screamy for me. Sorry Jer :)
The Unbeheld just blew me away. I don't even think the drummer was old enough to be out past curfew, and he beat those fuckers like a red-headed stepchild. Hell, none of those kids had any business being as tight and just fucking good as they were.
At one point I was standing behind the drummer in The Unbeheld, just rocking out. I looked around and suddenly realised that the crowd was mostly kids. Here I was, some old guy standing around. I guess now I know how old Greg Erwin felt back in the day. You know, when he claimed to be in his mid-30s, but was surely in his 40s, still going to shows & hanging out with the kids. We just wondered why the dinosaur was there. Now that dinosaur is me. My only consolation is that I don't dye my hair :)
