Fun day

I spent most of today working on putting a roof on the patio. It's going slower than I'd imagined. Mostly because it's so freaking hot, I take a lot of breaks. I'm probably not doing it the "right" way, but I'm pretty sure it will work. I've got the holes dug for the two posts, and after today have that wall square & together, almost ready to put in the holes & pour sack-crete. I still need to put the 2nd corner brace on each side, drop the wall into the holes, make sure it's level, prop it up, pour the concrete. I had intended to do all that today, but it started raining before I finished. Story of my life. Now, instead of being able to put up the other two corners tomorrow & tie it all together, I have to finish this wall, and hopefully do the other two corners Monday. Yay for holidays :)

Then it'll just be a matter of waiting for the next payday to buy the rafters & the corrugated roofing. That should be relatively easy, and it'll be finished.

At that point, we can put our folding chairs out there & the next time it rains, sit & listen to the pitter-patter of the raindrops.

For the most part, I could care less about the dang roof. Oh, it will be handy to have a place to put bicycles & lawnmowers & stuff to clear out the carport so I can have a bit more room, but that's just a secondary benefit. I know how much she loves the sound of rain on a tin roof, and this is the closest I can get practically. Right now the total stands at $200 & two weekends. I figure by the time I'm done, it'll be closer to $400 & 4 weekends. A small price to pay...

Today

Today I woke up, went to work, came home, cleaned rabbit hutch, and played a video game. Now I'll shower, read, and go to sleep. Be interested.

You know something is wrong

When I suddenly call out, "I'd like to change the subject to something other than boobs!!!"

Son of a gun!

I wish I didn't keep so much stuff in my car. I've been cleaning it out for an hour & a half now, only half done. Transmission went out, and some fool bought it for cash money (slightly less than bluebook with a *good* transmission). He's picking it up tomorrow, so I have to finish cleaning it out tonight :(

Is nothing sacred?

I am looking forward to the new Alice in Wonderland movie. I've always had a strange attraction to the story.

Too bad that once the movie hits, it's going to be a huge scenester thing.

Oh well, eventually it will fad out, and I can get cool AiW stuff cheap :)

Tiger's in the news again

I'm not condoning what he did, but I can certainly understand a lot. I don't know if I'd necessarily call it sex addiction, but if you look at the definition of addiction it fits.

One thing I will say, it *is* possible to change. Hopefully he will.

Blah

I've had a killer sinus headache for two days now. It's gotten to the point of being barely manageable.

I suppose I'm getting old. Just about the only thing I can ever think of to talk/blog about is my various aches & pains.

You know

It's a lot harder to post when you have nothing to complain about...

Gorgeous day

Don't know why, I'm not getting to enjoy it much. A bit here & there, but mostly just looking out the window. It's getting closer & closer to Halloween, and I still haven't pulled the decorations out of the attic.

I did manage to get most of the layers of paint off the bathroom door & frame. Enough that it *almost* closes properly. Unfortunately, whoever hung the door got the bottom hinge 1/16" too close to the frame, and I don't know of a good way to fix that. I guess I could fill the holes & redrill. Seems like I pain in the patootie when it's *almost* right.

Especially since we'll probably be moving in a couple of years. It just doesn't seem worth it to put in the effort for someone else to enjoy. I almost can't help myself, though. It's one of the reasons I just left it all alone. "Any job worth doing is worth doing right." I *want* to half-ass that kind of stuff, it just never seems to happen.

I'm just about sick of rain

Everything else in my life is going so great, though, I feel I shouldn't complain...

ugh

This lack of sleep thing is starting to really get to me. It's caused by a combination of things: my everyday insomnia, sinus drainage induced coughing, sinus meds induced extreme arthritis pain, and snoring loud enough to wake myself up. Oh, yeah, and the sinus meds make me need to pee every 10 minutes or so :)

Yesterday the earth was tilted ~10 degrees to the left. Today the earth decided to straighten up, but everything is so surreal, it doesn't matter.

After the dentist this afternoon, I'm going to look for sleeping pills. I'm pretty sure I have some in the house somewhere. I don't like to take them because they make me stupid the next day, but in this case I think I'll take the risk.

Social attention whores

Man, if you mess up & get on Facebook for 5 minutes, you end up getting notifications and messages for 2 days! Between that & trying to figure out who the fuck is sending you a friend request (old school mate? ex-boss? sister's ex-boyfriend's cousin's little brother's 2nd wife?) it just gets fucking annoying. It's teh weekend, and I'm glad!

Now I'm going to tie my pecker to my leg & get the fuck out of here.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Bang

(FYI, some #nix ppl refer to exclamation points as "bang")

Riding in to work today, I'm waiting to turn left onto our street. There's a pick-up truck in front of me, also turning left. He turns, then I turn, then I swerve to miss the 10 gallon "barrel" cooler slinging off the tailgate, splashing water all over the road. Then I swerved to miss the truck that swung to the side, apparently to pick up said cooler. There was plenty of empty space in the bed of the truck, I don't know why they didn't push the cooler up there and close the tailgate. I don't know why, that it, unless they're trying to kill me...

I overheard an interesting interview today

I was at a client's office, and the owner is just about the nicest business owner I've ever met. He led the interviewee past, wearing combat boots, baggy black pants, baggy black long-sleeve button down, and a died black short little mohawk. My first thought was "He should've cut his hair before the interview." Bizowner sat the guy down, and the first words out of his mouth: "Would you be willing to cut your hair? It needs to be a more uniform length."

He then went into a big long spiel about working in customer's houses, and how great it is that in this day & age, the way he looks is perfectly acceptable and no one cares... unless he's in their house. After a couple of minutes in this vein, bizowner must have noticed me & got up and shut the door.

Really, everything he said is the same type of things I would have said to interviewee if he were my friend. He was nice and accepting about it, on a personal level. In as friendly a manner as possible, he just laid out the truth about working in the real world.

He later took the guy back to meet the supervisor, so I'm assuming everything worked out OK.

Nice little ride

I rode down to Sardis yesterday, to work on Paul's mom's computer. I opened the case and 6 or 7 capacitors were blown. I could have probably found a replacement, but it'd have been used, and already 6 or 7 years old, too. Or we could have reused the case and drives, just replacing the motherboard, cpu, ram, and psu, and... spent almost as much money that Margy spent on her new laptop. Just not economically feasible.

I ate a little homemade jerky, but declined staying for (what was probably a delicious) BBQ dinner. Mike's kids & grandkids were all there to celebrate his birthday (last Fri) and I needed to get back home to celebrate MY wife's birthday.

Speaking of which: I opted out of the general Facebook clamor & wished her a happy day in person. (I'm taking a break from the FB attention-whore social club). I went to the book store to use her gift card & get the new book she's been wanting. When I got there, I noticed a little kid wandering around. Maybe 3 years old, clutching a new-looking Spongebob book. I asked where his mommy was (hoping he spoke english). He immediately started to tear up, "I don't know" and looked around in circles. I asked if she went in the store, and he nodded, starting to cry more. I told him it was ok, we'd find her, and started to walk up to him to take his hand. At that point, he looked nervous & started to back away. I laughed a little, and told him it was good to be scared of strangers, but I'd help him find his mom, anyway if he'd follow me. He did, and about halfway up the aisles he spotted her & ran up to her. I stood there as she looked up like "WTF do you want?" I just told her that I found him crying outside, but he's ok. She thanked me, I found Jamie's book, and when I went past again, she all but had a leash on him :) Hopefully that little scare will have her keeping a closer eye in the future...
